From Beadaholique designer Julie Bean: “With Mother’s Day around the corner, instead of picking a theme such as “May Flowers” or “Pretty Pearls,” we decided to create a contest with a more personal touch. For this beading challenge, we want you to create a piece of jewelry inspired by a loved one. Add little touches about the person into the design or create a piece of jewelry that captures their personality and unique style.
The photo above shows a piece I designed in honor of my mom for the very touching “Memories & Thanks Blog Hop” that renowned jewelry artist Lori Anderson did. I tried to think of all the things that my mom likes and then translated those items into design elements. The sewing machine has two meanings: one is that she likes to sew, and the other is that she makes dollhouse miniatures. The little steampunk gears are because she loves all things Victorian. She also collects antique lace so I added touches of old lace as well as a lace pendant. Behind the lace are images of French postcards which reminded me of a trip to Paris we took together. Finally, the little painted birds are because of the bird feeders she always kept in our yard when I was growing up.”
Now it’s your turn! We want to see your projects created in honor of someone special.
